My name is Stephie and over the years I have developed a passion for food science and love cooking and eating healthy food. I have been vegetarian since I was 9 years old due to my love for animals. There were a few exceptions over the years when I ate a little fish or chicken but I never really felt that it was right - for both moral and health reasons. Over the years, I learnt more about the meat and dairy industry; the suffering of these animals and the effects that conventional farming has on our environment and our health. I am now proud to say that I am now mostly vegan with the exception of the odd free range, and preferably organic, egg. I was brought up eating healthy, home cooked food and very rarely went to a doctor, due to my mother's belief in more natural remedies. I also spent a lot of time playing outdoors in fresh country air. I strongly believe that my upbringing not being filled with antibiotics and other pharmaceutical medication has a lot to do with the fact that I rarely get ill. If I ever do get ill, I treat myself with natural remedies and get better in no time.
I have been self teaching myself about nutrition for many years and a few years ago decided to take my learning to another level. I qualified as a nutritional adviser in September 2015 and I am now studying naturopathic medicine and healing diets with The School of Natural Medicine UK.
Nutrition is a never ending journey, but one that is worth every second. It is also a difficult subject as there is so much information out there and so many contradictions.
However the foundation to being healthy is:
- always eat natural;
- avoid processed foods;
- steer clear from additives, preservatives and colouring;
- don't have sugar and sweeteners;
- eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables every day (organic as much as possible);
- have leafy greens every day (organic as much as possible);
- live on a vegan diet as much as possible;
- eat small portions;
- only eat when you are hungry;
- Use natural remedies before pharmacuticals
- Exercise everyday
- Be positive
